The Clarion County Master Gardeners are
part of the Penn State Master Gardener volunteer program. This program
is designed to support Penn State Cooperative Extension by utilizing
research-based information to educate the public on best practices in
consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship.
Master Gardeners complete a 30+ hours initial
training program and volunteer 50 hours the first year. In subsequent
years volunteers complete 8 hours of update training and volunteer 20
hours. The volunteer hours include the following possible
functions:

Answer horticulture questions and
inquiries by telephone

Conduct clinics, demonstrations, and
workshops for the general public

Create and maintain demonstration
gardens

Provide educational assistance to
community groups involved in beautification projects

Serve in consulting role with 4-H
plant science education

Write articles for newspapers and/or
newsletters

Assist county extension staff with
educational resources
